Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) vice-president Maryam Nawaz has said that the time has come for Prime Minister Imran Khan to give his “final push” towards his defeat.
Addressing a gathering of Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) in Islamabad on Monday, Maryam Nawaz made a scathing attack on Imran Khan. He criticized his economic, governance and foreign policies.
After a no-confidence motion against Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan was introduced in the National Assembly with a total of 161 votes, the proceedings were adjourned till March 31.
The no-confidence motion was moved by the opposition parties on March 8. The opposition is confident that its resolution will be passed as several PTI MLAs have come out openly against PM Imran Khan.
The Pakistani National Assembly has a total of 342 members, with a majority mark of 172. The PTI-led coalition was formed with the support of 179 members, of which Imran Khan’s PTI had 155 members. Apart from this, the four major allies, Muttahida Quami Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P), Pakistan Muslim League-Qaida (PML-Q), Balochistan Awami Party (BAP) and Grand Democratic Alliance (GDA) have seven, five, five and three members respectively. Huh.
Imran Khan’s position is uncertain as three out of the four allies, i.e. MQM-P, PML-Q and BAP have lent their support to the opposition’s no-confidence motion.
Meanwhile, Pakistan’s opposition has moved a no-confidence motion against Punjab province Chief Minister Usman Buzdar in the Punjab Assembly.
This comes in the wake of the opposition’s no-confidence motion against Imran Khan and mounting pressure within the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) to remove the incumbent chief minister.
