The name of Osmania University is included in the oldest universities of India in India. It is now reported that the university has allegedly denied permission to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for an ‘apolitical’ visit to the campus. Although nothing has been officially said about it yet, but the alleged decision has created a new political controversy in Telangana.
According to the Indian Express report, the university has not given the organizers of the event in writing about the alleged decision of the executive committee. Here, the Congress has targeted the state government of Telangana Rashtra Samithi regarding this. At the same time, some students have moved the High Court to order the university for Rahul’s visit. Congress leaders on Sunday said they had sought permission for the event on April 23 and were told that the event would be “apolitical”.
According to the report, an official said that from the year 2017, the Executive Council had adopted a resolution, in which non-academic activities, including political meetings, were banned on the campus. The official said such a proposal was adopted in June 2017. He said that a year ago, the High Court had ordered the state government not to allow political and public meetings in the university campus. In fact, during that time the petition was filed due to the continuous trouble due to political activities.
This alleged decision taken by the university has created a protest on the campus. Several Youth Congress leaders and supporters demonstrated at OU Arts College on Saturday. At the same time, in response to this, student organizations affiliated to the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad and TRS retaliated.
According to the report, Manavta Roy of Telangana Nirudyog Vidyarthi Joint Action Committee said that the administration has not informed about the decision in writing. “We are expecting something from the administration on Monday,” he said.
