Abuja: At least 137 of the 300 children who were abducted from school in Kaduna state in northwest Nigeria two weeks ago have been freed. Nigerian Army gave this information. Earlier in the statement of Kaduna Governor it was said that all the students have been freed. On March 7, gunmen on motorcycles attacked Kuriga School. By the time the security forces arrived, the gunmen took the children hostage and took them towards the forest. School officials said 287 students were abducted, about 100 of whom were age 12 or younger.
At least 1,400 students have been abducted from schools in Nigeria since 2014. In the year 2014 itself, Boko Haram terrorists had kidnapped hundreds of school girls from Chibok village in Borno State. In recent years, kidnappings have occurred mainly in the northwestern and central regions of the country, where dozens of armed groups often target villagers and travelers for ransom.

Nigerian army spokesman Major General Edward Buba said in a statement that 137 children were freed in Zamfara state. “We will continue all efforts until the other hostages are located and the terrorists arrested,” Buba said.
