Shahbaz Sharif, Prime Minister of Pakistan.
Islamabad: More than 50 countries of the world have congratulated Narendra Modi on becoming the Prime Minister of India for a record third time, but Pakistan has not congratulated Modi yet. But now Pakistan said on Friday that it wants ‘cooperative relations’ with all its neighbours including India and resolution of disputes through dialogue. This comment of Pakistan has come after Narendra Modi was elected as the Prime Minister for a record third time.
Addressing her weekly press briefing, Pakistan Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mumtaz Zehra Baloch said that despite the difficulties and rhetoric coming from India, Pakistan is acting responsibly. She said, “Pakistan has always wanted cooperative relations with all its neighbors, including India. We have consistently advocated constructive dialogue and cooperation to resolve all pending issues, including major disputes like Jammu and Kashmir.”
India-Pakistan relations are tense
Pakistan had downgraded its relations with India after the Indian government revoked some provisions of Article 370 on August 5, 2019. Pakistan believes that this decision has weakened the atmosphere of dialogue between the neighbors. India has been constantly saying that it wants normal neighborly relations with Pakistan but it has been insisting that for such relations it is the responsibility of Islamabad to create an environment free from terrorism and hostility. Baloch said, “Pakistan believes in maintaining peace. We hope that India will take steps to maintain peace and advance dialogue and create a favorable environment for resolving long-standing disputes for the mutual benefit of the people of both countries.
