Summary
If the demands are not met, the protesting farmers and laborers will surround the Punjab Assembly.
The farmers’ wing of Pakistan’s Islamist party Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) has intensified protests against the Imran Khan government over the rising prices of fertilizers. Choudhary Showkat, regional president of Farmers Board Pakistan (KBP), an organization representing smallholder farmers, said fertilizers have become expensive and unavailable. In such a situation, if the situation does not change, then the crop production will fall.
The protesters said that the selling price of the crops was much less than the expenditure. In such a situation, farmers should be given exemption from general sales tax on seeds and agricultural equipment. JI chief Siraj-ul Haq told that the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government of Imran Khan has broken all records of atrocities and injustice.
Haq further said that all departments and sectors are crumbling due to the wrong policies of the government which has become a slave of IMF. He said that if their demands are not met, the protesting farmers and laborers will surround the Punjab Assembly.
The agitators also demanded the immediate release of the arrested farmers. Particularly in this demand are the 200 farmers arrested in Lahore, who had demonstrated against the price hike of petroleum products.
