Islamabad: Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has suspended one of its crew members who was briefly detained by Canadian authorities along with two others. This information was received from a media news on Saturday. The crew members were detained for possessing the passport of an unrelated person. This incident has happened at a time when Pakistan International Airlines is facing the problem of crew shortage.

According to the news of ‘Dawn’ newspaper, Hina Sani was detained in Canada along with two other members of the crew. These members were on duty with him on flight PK-789 from Lahore to Toronto. However, the three crew members were later released and allowed to return to Pakistan after investigation. PIA management later suspended Sani and said it would take further action as per the investigation report by Canadian authorities, the newspaper reported.

It is against international law to carry someone else’s passport while traveling abroad. PIA spokesperson Abdullah Hafeez Khan said the airline management is in touch with Canadian authorities and is cooperating with them in the matter. He said that following the investigation report by Canadian authorities, further departmental and legal action will be taken against the suspended crew member.

PIA spokesperson Khan said at least eight flight attendants “went missing” after taking off for Pearson International Airport in Toronto.
