Pakistan’s Prime Minister Imran Khan has challenged India’s PM Narendra Modi to debate through TV debate. Imran has said that in this way both the countries can resolve the dispute between each other. Significantly, on August 5, 2019, India abrogated Article 370, stripping Kashmir of its special status. Since then, diplomatic relations between the two countries are at a low level. Even before this, both the countries have fought three wars over Kashmir.
Imran Khan said in an interview to Russian media group Russian Times, “I would love to participate in a debate on TV with Narendra Modi.” He said that this would be beneficial for the billions of people of the Indian subcontinent, as it would allow the two countries to eliminate the issues between them from the discussion.
Significantly, India has been repeatedly telling Pakistan that terrorism and talks cannot go together. India is also continuously warning Pakistan to rein in terrorism. Especially such organizations which have been declared terrorist organizations by the United Nations.
A statement has not yet been issued from India on this proposal given by the Prime Minister of Pakistan. However, it is believed that India can raise the demand for punishment of the culprits of the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks, Pathankot, Uri and Pulwama attacks before accepting any such demand. Since these attacks, India has so far carried out surgical strikes on Pakistan twice.
