The flight was carrying PM Shahbaz Sharif, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz and a high level delegation returning from a visit to Saudi Arabia. Now what happens is that on reaching Pakistan, the flight which was supposed to go to Islamabad is diverted towards Lahore Airport.

Hundreds of passengers on board the plane faced inconvenience as the Islamabad bound flight was diverted towards Lahore. This information was given in media reports on Wednesday. Quoting a PIA spokesperson, ‘Dawn’ newspaper in its report said that the Pakistan International Airlines flight from Jeddah to Islamabad, in which Shehbaz Sharif and Maryam Nawaz were returning from Saudi Arabia, was diverted towards Lahore Airport. When PIA was asked whether this was ‘special treatment’, Pakistan’s national flag carrier said, ‘VIPs were treated like commercial passengers.’

‘Dawn’ newspaper said in its report that flight PK842 carrying 393 passengers, which was to land in Islamabad at 10:30 pm on Monday, was diverted towards Allama Iqbal International Airport and landed at 9:25 pm. The flight landed. PM Shehbaz, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz and other VIPs landed in Lahore, causing inconvenience to hundreds of other Islamabad-bound passengers, the report quoted sources as saying. After Lahore, the flight left for Islamabad and instead of 10:30 pm, it landed at Islamabad International Airport with a delay of about one and a half hour.
