skip the western please
According to a report in Pakistan’s The Express Tribune, parts of the internal memo titled ‘Pakistan’s tough choices’ were released by the American newspaper Washington Post. If this is to be believed, Hina Rabbani’s warning to the PM is that Pakistan needs to avoid the feeling of ‘pleasing’ the West. Hina warned the PM that the country could no longer attempt to maintain a wedge between regional neighbors China and the US. In a memo, Khar argued that Pakistan’s attempt to preserve its partnership with the US would sacrifice a genuine strategic relationship with China.
Russia’s fear of supporting Ukraine
Hina Khar has also been the Foreign Minister of Pakistan. According to the memo, he warned PM Sharif that if Pakistan continues its partnership with the US to please the West, it may suffer a lot. It is not known how the US obtained the Khar memos. Another document revealed how Pakistan views the Ukraine war.
According to this document, dated February 17, PM Sharif is discussing with an unnamed junior on the voting in the United Nations (UN) on the Ukraine conflict. According to the documents, an aide advised Sharif that Ukraine’s support would signal a change in Pakistan’s position. Because of this support, trade and energy deals with Russia may be in jeopardy.
Officials declined to comment
Pakistan was among the 32 countries that abstained during the UN General Assembly vote on 23 February. Pakistani officials named in the leaked documents, as well as officials from other countries, declined to comment, according to The Washington Post. The leak comes at a time when the US has already confirmed that it has no objection to Pakistan’s decision to import oil from Russia.
biggest after wikileaks
No information could be found about when this memo is from. This US intelligence leak, which came to the fore recently, is being termed as bigger than WikiLeaks of the year 2010. At that time, more than 700,000 documents, videos and diplomatic cables were leaked on WikiLeaks. After this, the intelligence documents of America were leaked recently on social media. This leak has been considered the most serious issue of security breach. Documents leaked on a Discord messaging platform offer a glimpse into India, Brazil, and Egypt at a time when the US is no longer the world’s undisputed superpower, reports The Washington Post.
