Pakistan has reacted to the violence in the Jahangirpuri area of Delhi, the capital of India. Terming the recent incidents as targeted attacks against Muslims, the neighboring country has “strongly condemned”. The special thing is that recently there has been a change of power in Pakistan and Shahbaz Sharif has become the new Prime Minister. This statement from Islamabad has come at a time when it is being said that PM Narendra Modi and Sharif can meet in July.
According to the report of Times of India, after the violence in Jahangirpuri area, a statement issued by Islamabad has been issued. The neighboring country said a “disgusting” attempt was made to hoist the flag at the mosque. However, there is no official response from India so far. Violence broke out in Jahangirpuri a few days ago during a procession on Hanuman Jayanti.
According to the report, government sources said that Pakistan should look at its record of persecution of ethnic and religious minorities. There is speculation that PM Modi and Sharif may meet during the SCO summit to be held in Tashkent in July. Sources in the Indian government said that it is too early to discuss about the summit level talks. Also there is no official resolution for the meeting.
There is no actual bilateral activities between India and Pakistan since December 2015. During that time both the countries started the process for bilateral talks. However, it came to an end after the Pathankot airbase attack.
In the statement, Pakistan has called on the international community and in particular the United Nations and relevant international human rights and humanitarian organizations to hold India accountable for “human rights violations against minorities and Muslims in particular”.
