Team selection for T20 World Cup will be done after IPL
Hardik Pandya and Virat Kohli are certain to be selected in the team
New Delhi. The Indian cricket team for the T20 World Cup 2024 will be selected after the IPL. New players who have performed well in the IPL are not expected to get a chance for the ICC mega tournaments to be held in the West Indies and America, while some proven cricketers may have to face disappointment. The ICC has set May 1 as the date to announce the provisional 15-member squad, due to which Ajit Agarkar and his teammates will have to make some clear choices about the fitness of each member of the team.
A BCCI source told PTI on the condition of confidentiality, ‘There will be no experiment or selection on the basis of performance on the field. Players who play for India and have consistently performed well in T20 International and IPL will be selected. This clearly shows that one of Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal may miss out on a place in the team, but if both are selected in the playing eleven, then only one of the two finishers Rinku Singh and Shivam Dubey can get a place. Is.
At the same time, the decision for the position of second wicketkeeper can also be close in which Sanju Samson will face competition from Jitesh Sharma, KL Rahul and Ishan Kishan. Rahul and Kishan bat at the top of the order and in this IPL both of them have not yet tried batting in the middle order, which will make it difficult for the selectors to analyze their performance in the lower order. Although Hardik Pandya’s bowling fitness remains a matter of concern, there seems to be no doubt about his selection. Like him, there is no doubt on the inclusion of Virat Kohli also.
The selection of captain Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav, fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah, Ravindra Jadeja, Rishabh Pant, Arshdeep Singh, Mohammad Siraj and Kuldeep Yadav is certain. If these 10 players are fit then they will definitely fly to America. Royal Challengers Bangalore have rested Siraj as he has been playing consistently and his workload needs to be managed. If we talk about the selection between Gill and Jaiswal, then the captain of Gujarat Titans has scored more runs. But if we talk about Jaiswal, the selection committee cannot ignore him considering his low scores in IPL.

Also, he is the only left-handed batsman in the top four which is a good thing. But if Gill continues to score runs then things will become very difficult. Otherwise the selectors can include both and exclude one of Shivam and Rinku. There will be competition for the spot of ‘reserve’ spinner among three cricketers which include Axar Patel, Yuzvendra Chahal and Ravi Bishnoi. While Akshar is a left-arm spinner, he is also a useful batsman. Chahal has not yet played a single T20 World Cup in his nine-year international career, but he is far ahead of the other two in bowling skills. But his repeated exclusion from important teams raises big questions over his selection in the tournament to be held in June. It will be interesting to see whether BCCI takes players like Mayank Yadav, Harshit Rana and Akash Madhwal as net bowlers or not as it will give them good opportunities.
