Purnia. Despite joining the Congress, the troubles of former MP Rajesh Ranjan alias Pappu Yadav, who is contesting the Lok Sabha elections as an independent candidate, are not showing any signs of abating. First his office was raided and now on Friday a case has been registered for violation of the Model Code of Conduct. An FIR has been lodged at Khajanchi Haat police station against Yadav, who is contesting from Purnia seat in Bihar. According to Khajanchi Haat police station chief Kaushalendra Kumar, Yadav has been accused of ‘threatening’ the officers who went to his residence late on Thursday night.
According to the complaint lodged by Circle Officer (East) Sanjeev Kumar Sharma, when an attempt was made to stop a vehicle involved in Yadav’s election campaign to show the documents near the Collectorate, the driver drove away and took the vehicle to Yadav’s residence. Went and parked there. When the officers reached there, Pappu Yadav allegedly misbehaved with them.
Yadav alleged that he was being ‘harassed’ at the behest of the ruling JDU and BJP alliance in Bihar. Yadav had merged his Jan Adhikar Party with Congress last month with the hope that he would get the party ticket from Purnia seat. Pappu Yadav represented Purnia Lok Sabha constituency three times in the 1990s.
However, this seat went to Congress’s ally RJD, which has fielded Bima Bharti, who switched sides from JDU. Yadav, husband of Congress Rajya Sabha MP Ranjit Ranjan, is contesting as an independent candidate. Voting will be held in Purnia on April 26 under the second phase of Lok Sabha elections.
