Will the process of passing the budget begin amidst uproar?
The government has only two weeks to pass the Union Budget for 2023-2024 in the Parliament. As per rules, the Union Budget has to be passed in both the Houses of Parliament before the end of the financial year, i.e. before March 31, 2023. In this week, the government may try to start the process of budget clearance. Generally the Demands for Grants of some major ministries like Railways and Agriculture are taken up for discussion and voting in the Lok Sabha.
After this, the government introduces the Appropriation Bill, in which approval is sought to withdraw money from the Consolidated Fund of India. After this Bill is passed, it becomes the Appropriate Act. After the vote on the Appropriation Bill, the Finance Bill is taken up for consideration. The government will also try to get Parliament’s approval for the second batch of supplementary demands for grants for 2022-23. (IANS)
