New Delhi. The Election Commission released constituency-wise data on the number of votes cast in the first five phases of the Lok Sabha elections on Saturday and said that a false narrative is being created with a mischievous intention to disrupt the electoral process. The Commission said that no change is possible in the number of votes cast.
On Friday, the Supreme Court had rejected a petition by an NGO ‘Association for Democratic Reforms’, which requested the Election Commission to be directed to upload polling station-wise voting percentage data on its website. A day after this, the Election Commission released this data.
The Election Commission said that it has decided to further expand the format of voting data to include the full number of voters in each parliamentary constituency. Electors are those who are part of the electoral roll. Voters are those who actually vote in the election. Although the Election Commission was releasing the voting percentage, there were requests to make public the actual number of voters in every phase.
