New Delhi. The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has directed the Pollution Control Board (PCB) of Maharashtra to probe media reports of violation of environmental norms by the Koradi and Khaperkheda thermal power plants near Nagpur.
It is alleged that both these power plants are dumping ash and other waste into rivers and streams, thereby polluting underground and surface drinking water in and around Nagpur city.
NGT chief Adarsh Kumar Goel said that Maharashtra PCB is directed to investigate the matter in the light of the above allegations and take further action as per law.
The NGT has handed over the copy of this order dated March 30 to the Maharashtra PCB.
