Beed (Maharashtra). Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday claimed that if Congress comes to power, it will overturn the Supreme Court’s verdict on Ram Temple just as the then Rajiv Gandhi-led government overturned the court’s historic verdict in the Shah Bano case in 1985. It was overturned as part of the party’s appeasement politics.
PM Modi said that a senior Congress leader who recently left the party has revealed that the ‘Prince’ (referring to MP Rahul Gandhi) had organized a meeting of select people after the 2019 Supreme Court verdict in the Ram Mandir case. Called and said that if his party comes back to power, the decision of the apex court will be overturned just like his father (then Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi) had done in the Shah Bano case.
In 1985, the Supreme Court had ruled in favor of Shah Bano, a Muslim woman from Indore who sought maintenance from her husband after divorce, but the then Rajiv Gandhi government overturned the decision through an Act Was. In November 2019, a five-judge bench of the apex court had paved the way for the construction of Ram temple in Ayodhya, ending the decade-old land dispute.
PM Modi was addressing an election rally in favor of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Pankaja Munde in Ambejogai in Beed district of Central Maharashtra. The veteran BJP leader said the Congress and its allies in the opposition ‘India’ alliance have mocked the rituals performed at the newly built temple in Ayodhya by calling them ‘useless’ and ‘hypocrisy’ and insulted Lord Ram and his devotees.
He said, “These people cannot dare to say such things about other religions. They insult Lord Ram and Ram devotees for the politics of appeasement. Can such parties increase the pride of Maharashtra?” During his address, PM Modi also mentioned the ‘vote jihad’ comment of a constituent party of the ‘India’ alliance in Uttar Pradesh and the statement of senior Congress leader Vijay Wadettiwar, in which it was claimed that Pakistani terrorist Ajmal Kasab did not kill the then Maharashtra ATS chief Hemant Karkare during the 26/11 attacks.
PM Modi alleged that ‘the 10 terrorists who entered Mumbai in November 2008 have some connection with the Congress’ and created chaos. He said, “People are asking the Congress, ‘What is this relationship called?’ During the Congress rule, terrorists were welcomed in the PM House. A senior Congress leader shed tears after the Batla House encounter in Delhi. I want to ask Congress whether it wants to bring back these old days? But Modi is standing in front of you like a rock.” Voting for Beed Lok Sabha seat will be held in the fourth phase on May 13.
