The picture shows the then party presidents and top party leaders preparing for the march along with yatra organizer Narendra Modi, then a party worker. Notably, PM Modi had also recently mentioned his strong ties with the southern state during an interview to Tamil channel Thanthi TV on March 31. The Prime Minister also talked about many issues including electoral bonds, ED raids, searches and Ram Mandir.
In a recent interview with Thanthi TV, Prime Minister @narendramodi mentioned his strong bond with Tamil Nadu.
He recalled his involvement in a historic event that began in Tamil Nadu’s Kanyakumari – the Ekta Yatra.

In the same conversation, PM Modi also recalled his participation in the Ekta Yatra, the historic event which started in Kanyakumari, Tamil Nadu and ended in Srinagar. Sharing the picture, the Modi archive handle wrote: “At the beginning of the Ekta Yatra, BJP President Murli Manohar Joshi and Yatra organizer Narendra Modi received the Indian National Flag from great freedom fighters Shaheed Bhagat Singh and Rajguru’s brothers Rajinder Singh and Devkinandan. On this occasion, Zubaid Ahmed and Ali Hasan, sons of Param Vir Chakra winner Constable Abdul Hamid, were also present along with senior BJP leader Lal Krishna Advani.
The Ekta Yatra, also known as the Unity March, was launched from Kanyakumari in December 1991 and ended with the unfurling of the national flag in Srinagar on 26 January 1992. The Ekta Yatra was led by senior BJP leader Murli Manohar Joshi, while Narendra Modi was a BJP worker at that time. He served as the main pivot in organizing the march.
The aim of the visit was to send a strong message to the world that India will stand strong and unite against terrorist forces. The visit to 14 states deeply influenced the people and demonstrated the country’s unwavering commitment towards national unity.
