The policemen who caught Pakistani terrorist Mohammad Ajmal Kasab during the 26/11 Mumbai attacks have been promoted with effect from 2008. An official gave this information on Tuesday.
He said that as per the government order dated March 22, medals, prizes and cash prizes were given to these brave policemen but no reward was given in the form of promotion, so it has been decided to promote them.
An official said that 15 policemen ranging from constable to inspector were part of the team that nabbed Kasab.
There was a major terrorist attack in Mumbai on 26 November 2008. Ten Lashkar-e-Taiba trained and heavily armed terrorists attacked several places in Mumbai. The attack lasted for about four days. More than 160 people were killed in this. The terrorists had targeted two five-star hotels, a hospital, railway stations in Mumbai. Initially no one had any idea that such a big attack had happened. Gradually the scale of this attack began to be estimated.
On the night of 26 November, several top officials of the Mumbai Police, including Anti-Terrorist Squad chief Hemant Karkare, also lost their lives in this attack. Ajmal Kasab, a terrorist involved in this attack, was caught alive. He was later hanged.
