Guwahati. Same story again. Same allegation again. This time, giving a jolt to the Congress, former Assam MP and former state president Ripun Bora joined Mamata Banerjee’s Trinamool Congress TMC. Ripun has accused the Congress of factionalism. Apart from this, he has also made a serious allegation that some of the senior leaders of the state Congress are entering into a secret pact with the BJP. Ripun has been joined by Mamta’s nephew and TMC MP Abhishek Banerjee. Ripun has written in his resignation that instead of fighting against BJP, the leaders of the party are fighting amongst themselves. Due to this the Congress has been marginalized and the BJP is benefiting.
Ripun wrote that the sentiments of lakhs of Congress workers in Assam have been hurt. He has written that since 2016 I have dedicated my life to uplift the Congress in Assam. Challenged the BJP in the elections, but factionalism kept it away from victory. He further wrote that I have been associated with Congress since 1976 and held various posts in the party. I am resigning with a heavy heart. Thank you for the trust reposed in me by the Congress leadership. Ripun has also written that in the assembly elections held in the year 2021, people felt that the Congress would win, but the internal war broke the trust of the people with the Congress and we failed to form the government.

The Congress in Assam had suffered a setback even before Ripun’s resignation when Sushmita Dev, who was an MP from here, left the party last year and joined the TMC. Sushmita’s father, Santosh Mohan Dev, was one of the tallest leaders of the Northeast and held many big ministries at the Center.
