Rome Pope Francis Easter Vigil: Pope Francis presided over a Saturday night Mass, the day before Easter, delivered a 10-minute sermon and baptized eight people into the Church. A day earlier, out of health precautions, the Pope had not attended the traditional Good Friday procession in a major art gallery in Rome.

Francis arrived at St. Peter’s Basilica in his wheelchair, took his place on a chair and began praying. About an hour later, he delivered a 10-minute sermon in a loud voice. This prayer meeting is organized to celebrate the rebirth of Jesus Christ.

In his sermon, the Pope mentioned the stone that was removed from the tomb of Jesus Christ after his death. He urged Catholics to remove the stones from their lives that “block the doors of our hearts, destroy hope and imprison us in the tomb of our fears and regrets.”
Pope did not participate in the ‘Way of the Cross’ procession
Earlier, the Vatican had said that Pope Francis did not attend the ‘Way of the Cross’ procession on the occasion of Good Friday so that he could remain healthy for Saturday’s prayers and the mass on ‘Easter Sunday’. The Vatican said that 87-year-old Pope Francis is suffering from flu, bronchitis or a cold. Over the past several weeks he has often asked one of his assistants to read his speeches aloud.
