new Delhi. Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has met Prime Minister Narendra Modi and demanded a special package of Rs 1 lakh crore for the next two years, citing the poor financial condition of the state.
Talking to the media after meeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the Parliament House Complex, Bhagwant Mann said that the financial condition of Punjab is very bad. The state has a debt of more than Rs 3 lakh crore. It has been only a week since the Aam Aadmi Party came to power. We are trying to stop the loot of mafia and treasury and compensate, but Punjab needs help.
Mann said that he has demanded a special package of one lakh crore rupees from the Prime Minister. Elaborating on this, he said that the state government has demanded a package of Rs 50,000 crore from the Center every year for the next two years. He said that in these two years Punjab would take care of its treasury and financial position and Punjab would again stand on its feet. He expressed hope that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will talk to the Finance Minister and help Punjab to become Rangla Punjab again.
Mann targeted the previous governments for the poor condition of Punjab and said that due to them the condition of Punjab which was once considered as the gem of the country has become so bad today.
He said that the Prime Minister congratulated him for winning the election and becoming the Chief Minister and also assured that together the country has to progress, Punjab has to be developed. Mann claimed that Punjab would be made the number one state of the country again.
Mann also sought the cooperation of the Government of India from Prime Minister Narendra Modi for national security and the security of Punjab. In response, the Prime Minister assured him of supporting every proposal brought in relation to the security of the country.
Responding to a question on increasing the jurisdiction of BSF, he said that he will discuss it during his meeting with the Union Home Minister.
