Punjab Election Result 2022: In the Punjab elections, the Aam Aadmi Party has made such a difference that even big analysts of politics have got confused. Some such candidates of the party have won the election, who neither have much experience in politics nor work in the party. Some names are such that they were not even heard of before. But the amazing thing is that these people have defeated such stalwarts of Punjab elections, who are counted among the top leaders in terms of position, prestige and name. He has so much experience in politics that people believe that he is aware of the nerves of the people. But in this election, he was badly defeated among the minor candidates. Let’s see who are these Giant Killers of politics…
1. Amritsar East seat: Navjot Singh Sidhu / Bikramjit Singh Majithia vs. Jeevanjor Kaur
The most surprising result has been shown in Amritsar East assembly seat. From here on one side Congress veteran and party chief Navjot Singh Sidhu was standing and on the other hand Akali Dal’s big leader Bikramjit Singh Majithia (Bikramjit Singh Majithia). But both of them were defeated by Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) candidate Jeevanjot Kaur in this seat. Jeevanjot Kaur has won the election by a margin of 6750 votes.
Jeevanjot Kaur comes from a non-political family, and has been engaged in social work for the past two decades. Due to her social work, Jeevanjot Kaur is recognized as ‘Pad Woman’ in Amritsar. She got this name because she provides sanitary pads to women prisoners in jails across Punjab. Kaur has established Shree Hemkunt Education (SHE) Society, which works for the welfare of poor and underprivileged people. He recently joined AAP to increase his social work, and already won the election.
It’s the victory of the people of Punjab. 2. Bhadaur seat: Charanjit Singh Channi vs Labh Singh Ugoke
Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi has been defeated by Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) candidate Labh Singh Ugoke by 37,558 votes from Bhadaur seat. Aam Aadmi Party’s young face Labh Singh is also contesting for the first time. Labh Singh Ugoke, 35, hails from Ugoke village in Bhadaur area. Before joining politics, he used to work in a mobile phone shop. His father is a driver and his mother works as a sweeper in a school in the village. Ugoke had joined the Aam Aadmi Party in the year 2013 and this time he defeated the Chief Minister of Punjab and well-known Congress leader Charanjit Singh Channi by a huge margin.
3. Chamkaur Sahib: Charanjit Singh Channi vs. Charanjit Singh
Apart from Bhadaur, Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi had also filed his nomination from Chamkaur Sahib seat. Chamkaur Sahib is the traditional seat of Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi. Channi has been winning this seat continuously since 2007. But his political career of about 15 years was put to a halt by an ordinary candidate. Incidentally, the name of the candidate AAP pitted against him is also Charanjit Singh. Charanjeet hails from this area and is an eye doctor by profession. He has been doing social service for a long time and is well respected in the area. They do not have any experience of elections but they are always ready to help the people and have been raising issues of public problems from time to time. Despite this, defeating Chief Minister Channi in his own area in electoral politics was not an easy thing.
4. Long Seat: Parkash Singh Badal Vs Gurmeet Singh Khudiyan
Parkash Singh Badal, a five-time chief minister and leader of Shiromani Akali Dal, was in the race to become an MLA for the 12th time. Badal is considered to be a senior player not only of Punjab but of the country’s politics. He was defeated by a 12th pass candidate of Aam Aadmi Party by 11,357 votes. The AAP candidate who defeated Parkash Singh Badal, Gurmeet Singh Khudian, hails from Khudian Maha Singh village in Sri Muktsar Sahib district. Jagdev Singh Khudian, father of 59-year-old Gurmeet Singh Khudian, was elected MP from Faridkot Lok Sabha constituency in 1989. Gurmeet joined the Congress party after the death of his father. He recently joined the Aam Aadmi Party after being in Congress for a long time.
By the way, the long seat has been considered as the traditional seat of Shiromani Akali Dal. In 1997, Parkash Singh Badal became an MLA from this seat for the first time. Since then, he has won the election from this seat for 5 consecutive times. In 2017 also he had won from Lambi assembly constituency. But this time a new candidate shook his hopes.
5. Patiala Urban Seat: Captain Amarinder Singh Vs Ajitpal Kohli
Patiala Urban seat was considered to be the hottest seat. It has always been a Congress stronghold. Congress candidates have won from here 11 times. Captain Amarinder Singh has won from here four times (2002, 2007, 2012 and 2017). By the way, the captain never lost from here. But sitting MLA Captain Amarinder was defeated in his own bastion by Ajitpal Kohli of AAP. Ajit Pal Singh Kohli is the son of the old ‘loyal’ Kohli family of Shiromani Akali Dal. His father Surjit Singh Kohli has been an MLA. Ajit Pal has also been the mayor during the Badal government. But this time Ajit Pal left the SAD and joined the Aam Aadmi Party. And in his first assembly election, he defeated former Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh.
