New Delhi: Election officials in Tamil Nadu’s Nilgiris on Monday inspected a helicopter carrying Congress leader Rahul Gandhi. Police said that the flying squad officers searched the helicopter after it landed here. Rahul was going to his parliamentary constituency Wayanad in Kerala where he is scheduled to participate in several election campaign activities including addressing a public meeting.
He is contesting the Lok Sabha elections from Wayanad for the second consecutive time where voting will be held on April 26. Today, as part of the campaign for the Lok Sabha elections in the southern state, Rahul Gandhi held a huge road show in Sultan Batheri on Monday. Rahul reached Nilgiri district in neighboring Tamil Nadu and interacted with the students of Arts and Science College there. From there he reached Sultan Bathery in Kerala by road.

In Sultan Batheri, Rahul did a road show sitting on the open roof of a car. During this, hundreds of workers kept walking together carrying banners with his photo. Rahul is also scheduled to address a rally of farmers in nearby Pulpally today. Pulappally is mainly an agricultural area where a large number of farmers live.
Congress sources said that Rahul is also likely to take out road shows in Mananthawadi, Vellamunda and Padinjaratara and address party workers there. During this visit, Rahul Gandhi is expected to hold a meeting with the Mananthavady Bishop, which assumes political importance in view of the recent controversy over the screening of the film ‘The Kerala Story’ by some churches.
Later in the evening, he will address a rally of the Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) in neighboring Kozhikode district. Rahul Gandhi, who is trying his luck again from Wayanad, has come to this constituency for the second time after the announcement of Lok Sabha election dates.
Congress leader Gandhi had started the election campaign in Wayanad constituency earlier this month by filing his nomination papers and holding a big road show. He had won Wayanad in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections by a record margin of 4,31,770 votes. Voting for 20 Lok Sabha seats in Kerala will be held on April 26.
