New Delhi. Indian Railways is constantly trying to ensure that every passenger gets a confirmed ticket. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav had given information about this recently. Still, there are many railway passengers who have to travel, but their tickets are either RAC or waiting list. For traveling in RAC, one gets half the berth in the train and it is not possible to travel long distances like this. At the same time, on waiting ticket, one can travel only in the general coach of the train. In such a situation, passengers cancel their waiting and RAC tickets. Now Railways has decided that if the passengers cancel their waiting tickets, then how much will they be charged.
Railways has been charging a lot for canceling train tickets. Due to this, Railways continued to earn a lot. Passengers continued to suffer huge losses due to ticket cancellation. Now Railways has changed the rules regarding charges for waiting and cancellation of RAC tickets. According to the new rules of Railways, no separate charge will be levied for waiting and cancellation of RAC tickets. No separate money will be taken from the passenger as service charge. Under the new rule, Railways has decided that now there will be a deduction of only Rs 60 on waiting tickets. At the same time, Rs 120 for sleeper class, Rs 180 for third AC, Rs 200 for second AC and Rs 240 for first AC will be deducted from the ticket.
Earlier, Railways used to deduct both convenience fee and service charge on cancellation of waiting and RAC tickets. Due to the old rules of the Railways, passengers got very little of the ticket money back. Questions were raised many times regarding this. Jharkhand’s RTI activist Sunil Kumar Khandelwal had complained about this. He had told that when the ticket worth Rs 190 was canceled, the Railways returned only Rs 95. The issue of ticket cancellation charges was also discussed on social media for a long time. Now Railways has made rules for this.
