The Supreme Court on Friday clearly said that elections will be held through EVMs only, now no one should even think of returning to the era of ballot paper, it is not right to create unnecessary doubt on the election process in the midst of elections. The bench of Justice Sanjeev Khanna and Justice Dipankar Dutta has given two decisions in the EVM case. Firstly, the demand for holding elections through ballot papers or 100% matching with VVPAT is completely rejected and secondly, in case of doubt, the way for investigation has been opened. The Supreme Court has ordered the Election Commission to seal the symbol loading unit of the EVM after the process of loading the election symbols of the candidates is completed and to keep the symbol store unit safe for at least 45 days after the election results are declared. . If the losing candidate has any objection to the result, he can demand an investigation from the Election Commission within seven days. The Election Commission will get the voting machines checked by technical experts, the candidate will have to bear the cost of checking the machines.
Here the decision of the Supreme Court came and there it became an election issue. Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a scathing attack on those who questioned EVMs in an election rally in Bihar, saying that this is a slap on the cheeks of those who question EVMs. Modi said, the leaders of the opposition parties have committed the sin of creating doubt in the minds of the public regarding EVMs. The people of INDI Alliance wanted the country to return to the same dark era when booths were captured, but the Supreme Court ordered the opposition parties to Has been given a deep blow. Modi said that the opposition parties should understand that the old era of ballot paper will not return. Congress leaders were opposing EVM the most for many years. Even went abroad and held a press conference against EVM. A protest march also took place in Delhi under the leadership of Digvijay Singh. When the Supreme Court’s decision came, Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh said that Congress had nothing to do with the petitions filed in the Supreme Court, but Congress will continue to run the campaign demanding maximum VVPAT matching.
Congress spokesperson Supriya Shrinet questioned the impartiality of the Election Commission, saying that if everything is correct then why is the Election Commission not giving time to the opposition parties for 11 months to meet for talks on VVPAT. SP President Akhilesh Yadav said that opposition parties will continue the fight against EVM. Aam Aadmi Party leader Saurabh Bhardwaj said that the way both the Election Commission and the Central Government were opposing 100 percent counting of VVPAT slips in the Supreme Court, it raises suspicion that an attempt is being made to hide something.
The decision of the Supreme Court is a wise decision, a decision that will take the country forward, a decision that will save the dignity of democracy. I have watched the elections very closely for the last 47 years, in every election booths were looted, bullets were fired, bombs were burst. When I became a reporter, the biggest news in elections was where, who and how many booths were looted. People of today’s times may not know what booth-robbing means. Goons and miscreants used to come to the polling booth. They used to drive away the voters, put the stamp of their candidate on the ballot paper and get the box sealed. Looting these booths was not limited to just winning the elections. This opened the way for strong candidates. Earlier, he used to loot booths for others at gunpoint, then after a few years, he used to loot booths for himself and reached Parliament and Assembly. When the EVM machine came, this hooliganism, this looting of votes stopped. The EVM machine was introduced during the Congress era but allegations of glitches started after Modi became the Prime Minister. When leaders like Rahul Gandhi used to allege irregularities in EVMs, lawyers like Kapil Sibal and Prashant Bhushan used to raise questions on it, it was sad because they know the importance of EVMs. They know how secure EVM has made our electoral process. I think those who raised questions on EVM must have come to their senses now. The Supreme Court has taken the decision after considering every aspect. Since the Supreme Court has today said that voting through EVMs is safe and cannot be hacked, this is a befitting reply to those raising questions on EVMs. Overall, the Supreme Court’s decision will further strengthen people’s trust in our election system. This will also help in making our democracy more powerful and vibrant. That is why Prime Minister Modi said that today is the victory day for democracy, every countryman should be proud of this day.
