New Delhi. The Calcutta High Court made strong remarks while hearing a petition demanding an NIA investigation into the stone pelting and violence at the procession in Murshidabad, West Bengal on the day of Ram Navami. The court said that elections should not be held in violence affected areas. The court said in a strict tone that despite the implementation of the code of conduct, if people cannot live in peace then what is the need for elections at such a place. The court has sought answers from the state government and police in the violence case. The next hearing of the case will now be on April 26.
A bench headed by Chief Justice TS Sivaganam said that if people cannot celebrate a festival peacefully for a few hours, then we will recommend to the Election Commission not to hold Lok Sabha elections in the concerned constituencies for the time being. Should be postponed. The court said that the code of conduct was in force, so what were the police and central security forces doing? The court also asked what action has been taken in this case so far and how many people have been arrested.
