Babul Supriyo, who joined the Trinamool Congress after being expelled from the Union Cabinet in the NDA government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has said that the BJP practices the politics of hate, so he left the party.
Actually, people have come under attack on social media many times for changing the Babylonian party. On Friday (March 18, 2022), he tweeted, “I took the decision to quit the party because of the hatred and divisive politics (in BJP) being done. I could not be more attached to this kind of politics.”
According to him, “The people of Asansol know that I have never and will never resort to communal and narrow-minded politics like 70:30 or 80:20 in Bengal.”
Supriyo is a Trinamool Congress candidate for the by-election to the Ballygunge assembly seat in West Bengal. Supriyo had quit the BJP a few days after he was removed as a minister at the Centre. He left the BJP in September last and joined the Mamata Banerjee-led TMC.
The Left camp had alleged that the then Union Minister Supriyo had instigated religious sentiments after the 2018 riots in Asansol area of West Barddhaman district.

At the same time, in the by-election to Kolkata’s Ballygunge assembly seat, BJP has fielded party’s Mahila Morcha leader Keya Ghosh. Trinamool Congress has declared former Union Minister Babul Supriyo as its candidate for this seat.
BJP’s West Bengal unit spokesperson Samik Bhattacharya told PTI that the party’s central leadership announced the names of the candidates in Delhi. The by-polls to both the seats will be held on April 12 and the counting of votes will be done on April 16.
