The Indian government, decades later, decided to reduce the disturbed areas in the states of Nagaland, Assam and Manipur under the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA). Union Home Minister Amit Shah gave information by tweeting on Thursday. There has been a demand to remove AFSPA from these states for a long time. AFSPA remained a major issue even during the assembly elections held in Manipur.
After decades, the Government of India has reduced the area under AFSPA in these states. Home Minister Amit Shah gave information about this decision of the government in a series of tweets on Thursday. Giving credit to PM Modi, Amit Shah said that this step is a result of the improving situation and development in the Northeast from the security point of view.
The Home Minister tweeted, “The Government of India under the leadership of PM Modi has decided to reduce the disturbed areas under the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) in the states of Nagaland, Assam and Manipur after decades.” Amit Shah congratulated the people of the Northeast and said that this part of India was ignored for decades, but the focus of the central government was on it.
