The party’s block president Anirul Hussain has been arrested by the police in connection with the violence following the murder of Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Bhadu Sheikh in Birbhum, West Bengal. During the meeting with the families of the victims, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had asked Hussain to either surrender or face arrest. Only a few hours later, the police acted on them.
Police Inspector Trideep Pramanik, posted as Inspector-in-Charge of Rampurhat Police Station, has been suspended with immediate effect for misconduct and dereliction of duty, a senior police officer said.
Who is Anirul Hussain?- Anirul Hussain’s name is in the news since Tuesday’s violence, in which 10 people were burnt alive. The TMC leader was accused of being involved in the case. The families of the victims had demanded their immediate arrest. The families also raised the issue with Mamata Banerjee, who ordered the police to immediately arrest Anirul.
Hussain, a resident of Rampurhat, was a Congress leader before the formation of Trinamool. He is reportedly a close aide of the deputy speaker of the state assembly and Birbhum MLA Ashish Banerjee. As the Block President of Trinamool Congress, Anirul controlled the political issues of Bagtui village. Locals tried calling Anirul when houses were being set on fire, but he did not respond. The families of the victims told this to Mamta Banerjee. Police will investigate why he was reluctant to tell them about the incident.
