Delhi’s Karkardooma Court has dealt a big blow to former JNU student Umar Khalid. Umar Khalid’s bail plea in February 2020 Delhi riots case has been rejected again. The court, while rejecting the bail plea, said that there is no ground to grant bail to the accused. It is to be known that Umar Khalid has been booked under UAPA in connection with Delhi riots.
The hearing on Umar Khalid’s bail plea was held on 23 March i.e. Wednesday, but the decision was postponed till Thursday, 24 March. Earlier the bail order was to be passed on March 14. But the defense lawyers did not give their arguments in writing in the case, after which the matter was extended till March 21. Then on March 21, Additional Sessions Judge Amitabh Rawat said that the court was not ready, then it was postponed till March 23.
On Thursday, while pronouncing the order, the court rejected the bail plea of former JNU student Umar Khalid. Additional Sessions Judge Amitabh Rawat was hearing this petition. During the hearing in the case, the accused had told the court that the prosecution did not have any evidence to prove the case. At the same time, it was argued on behalf of the prosecution i.e. Delhi Police that people were used as fodder in the name of CAA demonstration.
Special Public Prosecutor Amit Prasad told Additional Sessions Judge Amitabh Rawat that all the protest sites were built in such a place where the population density was high and poor people lived. They were used as fodder. The court had reserved the order on March 3 after hearing the arguments of the lawyers appearing for Umar Khalid and the prosecution.
Let us tell you that Umar Khalid was booked under the Anti-Terrorism Act UAPA for being the mastermind of the Delhi riots. These riots broke out during the demonstrations against CAA and NRC in Delhi. 53 people were killed and more than 700 were injured in these riots.
