Bhagwant Mann, the newly appointed Chief Minister of Punjab, made everyone wait for 50 minutes to take the oath of office. In fact, due to the delay in reaching Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal, he kept waiting for him at the airport itself. During this, Governor Banwari Lal Purohit had reached the venue of the ceremony at 11.50 am on his scheduled time. When the Chief Minister of Delhi came, Bhagwant Mann accompanied him to the ceremony site, Katkar Kalan.
After this, the ceremony could begin after the laying of flowers and the national anthem at the martyr memorial and the statue of Bhagat Singh. When senior Aam Aadmi Party leader and newly appointed Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann was taking oath, his mother was offering prayers at the venue itself. Apart from mother, 21-year-old daughter Seerat Mann and son 17-year-old Dilshan Mann, who came from America, were also present in the oath ceremony.
After the oath ceremony, CM Bhagwant Mann addressed the people and then assumed his office at the Punjab Civil Secretariat in Chandigarh. In his speech, Mann said that “work will start from today itself. We will not waste a single day. There is already a delay of 70 years.” He advised AAP volunteers to be humble. Said, “There should not be any news that they have become arrogant.”
Mann, in his address, assured the people of the state that his party’s government in Punjab would work to address issues like unemployment, corruption and the plight of farmers. He promised that the condition of government schools and hospitals in the state would be improved like the AAP government has done in Delhi.
He said that just as people from abroad come to see better schools and hospitals in Delhi, they will also come to Punjab. He also mentioned the issue of youth of Punjab migrating to other countries for a better future.
On the overwhelming majority that AAP got, Mann said that the people of Punjab have created history by giving such a huge mandate. “In the coming years it will be taught in schools that people voted on February 20, 2022 (Punjab elections) without any fear or greed,” he said.
