A criminal case has been registered against Samajwadi Party’s MLC candidate and pediatrician Dr. Kafeel Khan in Deoria, UP. He is alleged to have “forcibly entered” an ambulance to examine a female patient despite “the driver’s objection”. On this, ambulance driver Prakash Patel filed a case against him. The driver works at the Primary Health Center (PHC) at Bhaluhani in the district. However, Khan called it a politically motivated matter. He says that he is contesting the election of MLC from Deoria-Kushinagar, so it was done.
Deoria Circle Officer Shriyash Tripathi said that a case has been registered against Khan under IPC sections 332 (voluntarily causing hurt to public servant by his duty) and 353 (assault or criminal force to prevent public servant from discharging his duty) Has been done.
According to the police, the ambulance driver told in his complaint that on March 26, a female patient was brought to the PHC for treatment and after her examination, the doctors referred her to Deoria District Hospital. He was sent to the district hospital by PHC ambulance. The complainant alleged that since the ambulance did not have the required amount of oxygen, they were carrying Ambu bags (Artificial Manual Breathing Units) with them. However, the woman died as soon as she reached the emergency ward of the hospital.
Driver Patel alleged that after sometime Khan forcibly entered the ambulance and started examining the female patient, creating hurdles in government work.
She said on March 28, Khan tweeted a video in which she can be seen treating a patient inside an ambulance and then in a hospital. Khan said in his tweet that the oxygen cylinder in the ambulance in which the woman was brought to the district hospital was empty. Also, there were no Ambu bags, laryngoscopy, ET tubes (endotracheal tubes) and life saving medicines in the hospital.”
Khan said, “I had taken a woman to the hospital, who was injured in a road accident. When I was coming out of the hospital, a young man asked me to examine my mother lying inside the ambulance.
He said “I believe a case was registered against me because I tweeted about the deficiencies I found in the hospital and ambulance. The case against me is politically motivated. I am contesting elections and people are supporting me. They filed a case against me to divert my attention. I see this case as a continuation of my harassment.”
