Four swimmers have been arrested for their alleged involvement in the gang rape of a nurse in Bengaluru. Bengaluru Police said that the swimmer has participated in several state and national level competitions and was staying in Bengaluru for training. Dev Saroha, Rajat, Shiv Rana and Yogesh Kumar have been accused of gang rape in this case.
According to swimming federation officials, Shiv Rana and Rajat represent Haryana at the national level. Both had participated in the national championship in October last year. According to the official, he was one of our best swimmers and both of them also won medals at the state level. The official said that many pools in Delhi and Haryana were not operational during winters; In such a situation, he had come to Bangalore for Shiv Rana and Rajat training.
After sometime two more swimmers Dev Saroha and Yogesh Kumar joined them, the official said. There are plenty of job opportunities for certified coaches in private and public pools during the summer. So both of them (Dev and Yogesh) were looking to get their coaching licenses. At the same time, according to police sources, Rajat had befriended the victim on a dating app and then both started talking on Instagram. According to the victim, she had met Rajat over dinner on the evening of March 24.
The complainant woman, in her complaint filed on March 25, said that the accused were in an inebriated state and they raped her one after the other. At the same time, Sushil Saroha posted as head constable in Delhi Police said that my son Dev is innocent. I spoke to him only on Tuesday night. He had gone to Bangalore for training only last week and was staying in a flat with his friends. Sushil said that his son is a swimmer and had gone to Bengaluru to prepare for ‘Desh Seva’.
Many swimming coaches and former swimmers have given their feedback on this matter. A senior coach from Haryana state said that they all have been champions of all-time national-state level competitions and very talented swimmers. He said he was not ready to name the two swimmers whom he coached. However, this incident that came to light from Bangalore has shocked the swimming world.
