BJP has announced the Chief Minister’s face in Goa. Pramod Sawant has once again been trusted. This decision was taken in the legislature party meeting today. The meeting was held in the presence of central observers Narendra Singh Tomar and L Murugan. He will lead the BJP government in Goa for the second time. Sawant took over the reins of Goa in 2019 after the death of Manohar Parrikar.
Pramod Sawant’s father had been a member of the Zilla Panchayat. Following in the footsteps of his father, Pramod joined the Sangh in his childhood. Although he came into active politics only a decade ago. Sawant, an Ayurveda doctor by profession, contested the first election leaving a government job. In 2008, he entered politics. From Sanquelim seat, he had landed in the election field for the first time. At that time he was an Ayurveda doctor in a government hospital. He was defeated in that by-election. But in 2012 he reached the assembly by winning. In 2017 he won again and was made the Speaker of the Assembly.
Sawant hails from Kotonbi, a village in Bicholim taluka in Goa. He was born on April 1973 in Goa. His wife Sulakshana Sawant is the president of BJP Mahila Morcha. He was the youngest speaker of the Goa Legislative Assembly. He was sworn in as the 13th Chief Minister of Goa on 19 March 2019 after the death of the then Chief Minister of Goa, Manohar Parrikar. Presently he is MLA from Sankelim assembly seat.
