The Madras High Court on Tuesday (March 15) said that private talking on the phone of employees in government offices should be banned. The Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court on Tuesday ordered that government employees should not be allowed to use mobile phones for personal use during office hours. The Madras High Court has also directed the Tamil Nadu government to make rules in this regard.
Justice Subramaniam gave this order while hearing a petition filed by an employee of the Health Department against the suspension due to the use of mobile at the workplace. Justice Subramaniam said that personal use of phones by government employees during work has become a common practice, which is wrong. The court directed the government to make rules in this regard and take action against the erring employees.
The court also refused to grant any relief to the woman who filed the petition against her suspension. Radhika was working as Work Supervisor in Trichy Health Zonal and she was using mobile phone at workplace, due to which she was suspended by the concerned department.
