This happened when violent protests were taking place in the state over the hijab controversy.
There was a lot of opposition in the group where the student had allegedly shared the post. A student even shared the flag of India in response to this. The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) has also jumped into the matter. She has demanded the police to register a case of sedition against the girl student and her immediate sacking from the college.
College statement Responding to the matter, the principal of the college said: “The students created a separate WhatsApp group, where one of them sent a flag symbol during the chat. ABVP drew our attention to this. We have now given notice to the parents of the girl student. They have not appeared in front of the college till date and the mobile phone of the student is switched off. We have sent it to the registrar of Kuvempu University, as the college is affiliated to the university.” ABVP district convener Dhanush Gowda alleged a delayed response from the institution’s administration, saying they were planning a protest against the college authorities.
What is the matter The hijab controversy in Karnataka began on January 1, when the management of a government pre-university college in the Karnataka city of Udupi barred six Muslim girls from attending classes for wearing the hijab, saying it was against the dress code. The matter took hold when Hindu students came to the college wearing saffron gamchas and were waving saffron flags.
Karnataka High Court reserved the verdict- The students said that if hijab is allowed in educational institutions, they also want permission to display their religious dress and symbols here.
