The Supreme Court on Wednesday issued notice to the Uttar Pradesh government while hearing a petition challenging the bail of Ashish Mishra, son of Union Minister Ajay Mishra Teni, in the Lakhimpur Kheri violence case. The Supreme Court has also asked the Uttar Pradesh government to ensure security of witnesses.
In fact, relatives of some victims in the Lakhimpur violence case alleged that a witness involved in the case was attacked after Ashish Mishra’s bail was granted, a Supreme Court bench headed by CJI NV Ramana, while hearing the petition, said. The government has been asked to ensure security of witnesses and file a reply in the matter.
The bench asked the lawyer appearing for the Uttar Pradesh government about the attack on the witness, to which he said that they will implement the directions of the court. During this, the CJI said, “There is a specific incident which they are referring to that a witness is being attacked. File a detailed counter-affidavit on this. You have to ensure their safety.” The matter will be heard in the Supreme Court after Holi.
On October 3 last year, four farmers were killed when a vehicle ran over farmers returning from a protest at Lakhimpur Kheri. Violence then erupted in which three BJP workers and a journalist were killed. Union Minister of State for Home Ajay Mishra Teni’s son Ashish Mishra is the main accused in the trampling of farmers. Farmer leaders and opposition parties have been continuously targeting the BJP regarding this matter and have been demanding the resignation of the Union Minister.
Let us inform that on February 10, Ashish Mishra was granted bail by the Lucknow Bench of the Allahabad High Court. In the midst of the assembly elections in the state, the politics was once again heated regarding the bail of Ashish Mishra.
