Rewa Police of Madhya Pradesh arrested Mahant Sitaram Das alias Samarth Tripathi on Wednesday for raping a minor girl. In fact, the arrest of Mahant Sitaram Das in the rape case came after Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan pulled up the officials. In this case, the victim had complained on March 28, on which the officials were adopting a casual attitude.
Let us tell you that the accused Mahant Sitaram Das has been arrested in the case of raping a minor, he is the nephew of former BJP MP and former member of Ram Janmabhoomi Trust Ram Vilas Vedanti. The accused Mahant had come for a 10-day story reading program to mark the inauguration of a mall in Rewa. Ram Vilas Vedanti was also supposed to address this Katha Vachan programme, which has now been cancelled.
The arrest of the accused Mahant comes soon after the statement of Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, who was on an official visit to Rewa. While addressing an employment program, he said, “What is the bulldozer for? Use this and take action against such people who look at our daughters with evil eyes. No goon will be tolerated under BJP rule. They will be destroyed using bulldozers.”
Apart from this, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan also said that I will not allow such people to live in peace in Madhya Pradesh. The accused Mahant was arrested from a barber shop in Singrauli district near Rewa when he was allegedly trying to escape, police said. Additional SP Shiv Kumar Verma said that the victim had lodged a complaint at Rewa police station on the night of March 28.
The victim told the police that she had approached Vinod Pandey (a history-sheeter), an associate of Mahant, for help with college fees. After which Vinod Pandey’s men took him to a circuit house, where he was waiting for him. The victim told the police that within a short while Mahant came there with another colleague Dhirendra and then all three started drinking alcohol. At the same time, he was also forced to drink alcohol.
Additional SP Shiv Kumar Verma said that minutes after the incident, Dhirendra and Vinod Pandey left the victim alone with the accused in the room. During this, the accused Mahant Sitaram Das forced her to do so, to which the victim protested and shouted for help. Police said that after this incident, the family members had brought him to the police station. Police said the victim was not in a position to speak that day, so they were asked to record her statement the next day.
However, in the meantime, photographs of the accused with many people came to the fore, including Rewa SP Naveen Bhasin. When asked about the picture, Bhasin said that “Mahant Sitaram Das, the grandson of Vedanti Maharaj’s younger brother, had come to Rewa to oversee the preparation work of reading a set story, in which Vedanti Maharaj also participated.
