Satara (Maharashtra), (IANS)| A strange incident was witnessed in Satara, Maharashtra, when a man set his house on fire after an altercation with his wife, after which the flames spread, which also burnt down 10 nearby houses.The police gave this information on Tuesday.The incident took place in Mazgaon village late Monday evening when Sanjay Patil and his wife Pallavi had a fight over some domestic differences, said Uttam Bhapkar, Investigating Officer of Malharpeth police station.
After a quarrel with his wife, Patil, who was red-yellow in anger, suddenly went to the kitchen and set his house on fire. Meanwhile his wife was screaming for help.Within minutes, the gas cylinder kept in the kitchen engulfed in flames and exploded, following which the fire broke out and spread to the adjoining houses of their house.Panicked neighbors managed to pull out the warring couple and also evacuated their homes, with no casualties reported.Although he tried his best to douse the fire, but by Tuesday morning, his house was completely burnt to ashes.
“According to local villagers, around 9-10 houses have been completely gutted and others have suffered some damage, which is worth around Rs 50 lakh,” Bhapkar told IANS.Locals said that those whose houses were burnt became homeless in the early winter, so angry villagers caught Patil and thrashed him before handing him over to the police.Locals said that after this incident, his wife has taken shelter with the family of a nearby relative.Bhapkar said Patil was produced before a court in Satara, from where he was remanded to two days’ police custody. Along with this, the police is investigating the matter after looking into the motive behind the arson in the house and the aspects of the whole incident.
