Raghuraj Pratap Singh alias Raja Bhaiya, Samajwadi Party leaders Azam Khan, Ram Gopal Varma and Durga Prasad Yadav were named by the Assembly Secretariat for the post of Pro-tem Speaker in the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly. Governor Anandiben Patel appointed Ramapati to the post. The four-member panel elected Shastri, a former minister and MLA of the Bharatiya Janata Party, as the pro-tem speaker.
However, the new speaker of the house will be elected after the swearing-in of the chief minister and the cabinet. Pro tem speaker Shastri will administer the oath to the newly elected MLAs. The governor will administer the oath of pro tem speaker on March 26. The first name in the list of senior MLAs that was sent was that of Azam Khan, who was elected MLA for the tenth time from Rampur. This was followed by Suresh Kumar Khanna of BJP and Durga Prasad Yadav and Awadhesh Prasad of SP.
Let us inform that Ramapati Shastri is the MLA from Mankapur assembly seat of Gonda. He defeated Ramesh Gautam of SP by 42,396 votes in the recently held assembly elections. He has reached the assembly for the eighth time. He was elected MLA for the first time in 1974. He was the Social Welfare Minister in the previous government led by Yogi Adityanath. He was the Minister of Social Welfare and Revenue in Kalyan Singh’s government. Apart from this, he was the Health Minister in the government of Mayawati and Kalyan Singh.
Yogi Adityanath, who led his party to a thumping victory in Uttar Pradesh, will take oath as the chief minister of the state for a second term on March 25. Adityanath will be the first chief minister to return to power after completing a full term in the state in the last 37 years. The BJP retained power in Uttar Pradesh by winning 255 seats out of 403 and garnering 41.29 per cent vote share.
The swearing-in ceremony will be held at Lucknow’s Ekana International Stadium. During this, celebrities from the political, religious, industry and social world of the country will be present.
