Sangeet Som Sena UP chief Sachin Khatik and nine others have been booked for vandalizing, looting and disturbing peace at a food stall in Meerut’s Sardhana area on Saturday. The UP chief of Sangeet Som Sena was accused of vandalizing a food cart along with accomplices in which he claimed that mutton biryani was being sold in the shop.
The organization, formed by supporters of former BJP MLA Sangeet Som, had earlier demanded a ban on the sale of meat and non-vegetarian food in Sardhana during the Navratri festival that began on Saturday. Sardhana police station in-charge Laxman Verma said that a case has been registered against a total of ten people, including the UP chief of Sangeet Som Sena, Sachin Khatik, as they tried to disturb the peace.
Activists of Sangeet Som Sena had claimed that the shopkeeper was selling mutton biryani while the shopkeeper was selling veg biryani. Laxman Verma, in-charge of Sardhana police station said that if the shopkeeper was also selling non-veg biryani, then sabotaging his handcart was a crime. The motive of these people was only to create ruckus, while the sale of mutton or chicken biryani is not banned.
Be aware that Sardhana is a city with a large Muslim population. The meat vendors of the town here had decided to stop the sale of mutton and chicken for nine days due to the Navratri festival. According to police, Sangeet Som Sena’s Sachin Khatik and his supporters roamed across the city on Saturday, only to see if the vendors had stopped the sale of mutton and chicken. Meanwhile, he allegedly targeted a food cart selling veg biryani and overturned it.
In this case, the victim shopkeeper Sajid alleged that Sachin Khatik and his supporters also looted money from him. According to Sajid, he was instructed by the police not to sell mutton or chicken biryani during Navratri. That’s why he set up a stall of veg biryani. Sajid said that in the afternoon, members of Sangeet Som Sena attacked my cart and then ransacked it. Along with this, the cash which I had with me was also robbed.
