After returning to power with a thumping victory in the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections, the focus of the BJP is now on the Legislative Council elections. The party has declared candidates for 36 seats. Not a single ticket has been given to the allies. In the assembly elections, the party had made a very balanced caste equation and it is again moving forward on the same path.
Tickets to 11 candidates who came to BJP from other party- Apna Dal (S) and Nishad Party have an alliance with the party. Both the Apna Dal (S) won 12 out of 17 seats and the Nishad Party 11 out of 16 in the assembly elections. After this he has not got any ticket in the MLC election. Whereas 11 such candidates have been given tickets who have joined BJP from other party. On the other hand, workers of the organization have been given a chance in 25 seats.
Most Kshatriya candidates- BJP has given ticket to maximum number of Kshatriya class candidates for MLC elections. 16 people of this category have got tickets. Apart from this, 11 candidates from backward classes have been given tickets. The party has given tickets to five candidates from Brahmins, three from Vaishyas and one candidate from Kayastha community.
SP again expressed confidence in MY equation- In the assembly elections, the Samajwadi Party performed best on Yadav and Muslim majority seats. In view of this, the party has once again expressed confidence in the MY equation i.e. Muslim-Yadav alliance in the Legislative Council elections. The party has given tickets to Yadavs in 21 and Muslim candidates on four of the 34 seats. Apart from this, Brahmin candidates have been fielded on four. Apart from this, one candidate each from Shakya, Kurmi, Kshatriya, Jat and Prajapati class has been given ticket. The alliance partner RLD will contest on two seats.
UP MLC election- The elections will be held in two phases. In the first phase, nominations for 30 seats took place from March 15 to 19. Scrutiny of nomination papers for this phase took place on March 21 and candidates will be allowed to withdraw nominations till March 23. In the second phase, six seats will go to polls, whose nominations will be till March 22. Scrutiny of nomination papers will be held till March 23 and withdrawal of names can be done till March 25. Polling will be held on April 9 and counting of votes will be held on April 12.
