After the Uttar Pradesh assembly elections, now all eyes are on the Legislative Council elections. In Purvanchal, there was a fierce battle in many seats. BJP has fielded Sudama Patel as its candidate from Varanasi. Brajesh Singh’s wife Annapurna Singh is also in the fray from here. She is contesting as an independent. It is believed that the competition here will be thorny. BJP candidate has said that even after being jailed, Brajesh is influencing the elections.
BJP has fielded Arunkant Yadav, son of SP leader Ramakant Yadav from Azamgarh Mau seat. Arun had created a sensation in the past by saying that his father may also join the BJP. The party has expelled the sitting member of the Legislative Assembly Yashwant Singh for six years. In fact, Yashwant Singh’s son Vikrant Singh filled the independent form for not getting the ticket, which the party considered as indiscipline.
In Pratapgarh, Akshay Pratap Singh Gopal is contesting for the fifth time on the ticket of Raja Bhaiya’s party Jansatta Dal. Apart from BJP and SP, Jansatta Dal’s national general secretary Kailash Nath Ojha is also in the fray in this seat.
From Jaunpur, BJP has fielded sitting MLC Brijesh Singh Prinsu as its candidate. He has joined BJP from BSP. The famous Bahubali of Purvanchal is considered close to Dhananjay Singh. He will face Manoj Yadav of SP.
