The Samajwadi Party has performed better in the 2022 assembly elections as compared to 2017 in the assembly seats reserved for Scheduled Castes (SC). On the other hand, BJP has won the maximum number of seats reserved for Scheduled Castes. The performance of BJP in the 2022 assembly elections has been slightly worse in the reserved seats as compared to 2017. In UP, 84 seats are reserved for Scheduled Castes while 2 seats are reserved for Scheduled Tribes.
In the 2017 assembly elections, BJP had won 69 reserved seats, while Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj Party (SubhSP) won 3 seats and Apna Dal (Sonelal) won 2 seats. In 2017, Apna Dal (Sonelal) and SubhaSP had an alliance with BJP. And a total of 74 seats were won by the BJP alliance. On the other hand, Samajwadi Party won 7 seats, BSP 2 and 1 seat was won by an independent candidate.
In the 2022 assembly elections, the BJP along with its ally Apna Dal (Sonelal) won 63 reserved seats, which is 11 seats less than in 2017. While BJP’s second ally Nishad Party did not contest a single reserved seat. The Samajwadi Party alliance won 20 reserved seats. In the 2022 assembly elections, there was an alliance of Subhasp, RLD and Samajwadi Party. Samajwadi Party won 16, RLD 1 and Subhasp 3 reserved seats. The performance of Samajwadi Party has improved in these seats in 2022 as compared to 2017.
