Continuous efforts are being made to reduce the level of pollution in the country, in which scrapping of old vehicles is a big step. According to a recently released new report, there are about 13.4 million vehicles registered in Delhi, of which 42% are ‘invalid’ i.e. not roadworthy because they are either more than 10 years old, or in the case of petrol engines. are more than 15 years old. In all, there are 30 lakh petrol-powered vehicles in the capital, which are not road-worthy.
These figures emerged from an analysis conducted by the Transport Department of Delhi. The transport department had earlier canceled the registration of over one lakh vehicles, as these were over the age limit prescribed for petrol and diesel vehicles. Also called ‘End of Life’ vehicles, such vehicles are not allowed to be driven in the city as well as parked in public places.
Better option to sell vehicle in other state
At present, owners of petrol and diesel vehicles who have expired, have many options available to such vehicle owners. Perhaps the most commonly used option is to obtain a no-objection certificate from the state transport department and sell the vehicle to a buyer in another state.
