Lok Sabha elections 2024
The 5th phase of the Lok Sabha elections 2024 has ended. All the parties are now busy preparing for the sixth and seventh phase of voting. However, amid the elections, the opposition parties had raised questions about the delay in releasing the complete figures of voting percentage after voting. Now a petition related to this matter has been heard in the Supreme Court. In this petition, the court was requested to direct the uploading of polling station-wise data. However, the Election Commission has clearly stated that releasing the polling percentage center-wise data will lead to chaos. Let us know the whole matter.
What is the whole matter?
In fact, an NGO has filed a petition in the Supreme Court, appealing that instructions should be given to upload polling station-wise data on the website within 48 hours after the end of voting for each phase of Lok Sabha elections 2024. However, the Election Commission, in its reply, has said that accepting the petitioner’s request would only be prejudicial in law. Along with this, there will be chaos in the machinery used in elections.
What reason did the Election Commission give?
Filing a reply in the Supreme Court, the Election Commission has said that the details of Form 17C indicating the number of votes cast in a polling station cannot be made public. This can lead to chaos in the entire electoral system. This increases the possibility of tampering with the photographs. The Election Commission has also rejected the claim in the court that the figures released after the first two phases of voting for the Lok Sabha elections 2024 and the press releases issued later have seen an increase of 5-6 per cent.
When are the elections now?
The 5 phase elections under Lok Sabha elections 2024 are over. Now voting will be held for the sixth phase of elections on May 25 and for the seventh phase of elections on June 1. Voting will take place on 57 seats each in both these phases. At the same time, the results of Lok Sabha elections 2024 will be released simultaneously on June 4.
