Islamabad: Former Prime Minister of Pakistan Imran Khan seems to be getting great relief. The confidential documents case took a new turn when the Islamabad High Court said that the Federal Investigation Agency had nothing to prove that jailed former Prime Minister Imran Khan was in possession of confidential diplomatic documents and These got lost.
Did Imran Khan have confidential documents?
A division bench of Islamabad High Court comprising Chief Justice Amir Farooq and Justice Miangul Hasan is hearing the case. The division bench on Tuesday resumed hearing on the appeals of 71-year-old Imran Khan and Shah Mahmood Qureshi, who was the foreign minister in his government, against their conviction in the case of possessing classified documents. The bench asked whether the prosecution agency had any material to prove that Imran Khan was in possession of confidential documents.

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan was sentenced to 10 years’ imprisonment in this case along with former foreign minister Qureshi. Khan had allegedly shown a confidential diplomatic document at a public rally in Islamabad and claimed it was evidence of a conspiracy being hatched by foreign powers against his government. About two weeks after Khan showed this paper, his party’s government was ousted from power through a no-confidence vote in April 2022. (Language)
