Bhubaneswar. A large number of policemen have started arriving at tattoo parlors in the capital of Odisha to get tattooed or removed from their bodies. According to an official order, to maintain the image of Odisha Police at the national and international level, policemen deployed in the Special Security Battalion (SSB) have been asked to remove visible tattoos. Policemen have been given a time limit of 15 to 20 days to completely remove tattoos that are visible beyond their uniform.
According to Subham Kumar Padhi, owner of WWE Tattoo Studio in Bhubaneswar, removing permanent tattoo is a challenging and time-consuming process compared to getting it done. Subham Kumar Padhi said that ‘The cost of tattoo removal is four times more than the cost of tattooing, laser treatment requires four sessions at an interval of 15 to 20 days.’ Padhi mentioned that several police personnel came to his studio to begin the tattoo removal process.

He said, ‘The cost of tattoo removal is Rs 2,000 per square inch, whereas we charge around Rs 350 to Rs 500 per square inch for tattooing.’ The Special Security Battalion, comprising over 1,000 policemen, provides security to important establishments such as the Chief Minister’s residence, Raj Bhavan, State Secretariat, NISER, Odisha Assembly and the High Court. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Security) Sudhakar Mishra said that the instruction to remove visible tattoos has been issued to maintain the reputation of Odisha Police. He stressed that tattoos considered offensive or derogatory can tarnish the image of the police force.
