The researchers included 100 students in the experiment. In this he was asked to write his opinion on social issues. For this they were given some topics like ‘Smoking should be banned in public places’. He was told that his opinion would be evaluated by a PhD student from Nagoya University. However, no matter what the subjects wrote, the evaluators gave them very low marks on the basis of intelligence, interest, friendliness, logic and appropriateness. What was the result of the study?
In the next phase of the experiment, students wrote their feelings. Students were made into two groups. A group of half the students tore the papers on which they had written their feelings into pieces and threw them away. The second group kept those papers in a transparent folder or box. According to the report, different levels of anger were found in all the students after the insult. The group that kept their feelings after writing them down on paper, the level of anger remained high, whereas in the group that tore the paper into pieces and threw it away, it reduced and completely disappeared. The researchers said their discovery could be used as an informal way to manage anger.
