With the order being reserved after the hearing in the Supreme Court, now everyone’s eyes are on the verdict. There was discussion about the reservation of this order even in the Gujarat Bar Council elections. This time Nalin Patel of Vadodara has occupied the post of President of this Gujarat Bar Council. Justice MR Shah and Justice CT Ravi Kumar heard this very important application challenging the promotion of judges in the Supreme Court.
Justice Shah had expressed displeasure
Senior advocate Dushyant Dave appeared for the two judicial officers from Gujarat who challenged the promotion. He had said during the hearing that one such case of promotion of judges is pending before Chief Justice DY Chandrachud. In such a situation, why is there such a hurry in the disposal of this matter? Justice MR Shah got angry on this comment of senior advocate Dushyant Dave and said that do not force me to say anything in the last days of my career. Argue on merit only. On this remark of Justice MR Shah, Dushyant Dave had even said that Lord, don’t threaten me. I am arguing my point.
Who is Justice MR Shah?
After graduating in law from Gujarat University, Shah practiced as an advocate for 20 years in the Gujarat High Court. Shah was appointed as an additional judge in the Gujarat High Court in 2004. In 2005, Shah became a regular judge of the High Court. After this he was transferred to Patna High Court. In 2018, MR Shah became the Chief Justice of Patna High Court. After this, Justice Shah was appointed to the Supreme Court by promotion in November, 2018. Shah will retire from the Supreme Court on May 15, 2023.
